Trend Watch: Red Carpet Celebrity Hair Styles

With the award season is in full swing, red carpets have been packed with gorgeous sparkling gowns, bold lips, smoky eyes and elaborate manicures, but what hair looks have reigned supreme? Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte, who tames the tresses of stars like Madonna, Selena Gomez and Jessica Alba, is giving you an inside look at the top trending red carpet styles…

STRAIGHT HAIR
When you think red carpet, you usually thing about up-dos and elegant waves, but many of Hollywood’s leading ladies switched it up this year, opting for sleek straight styles. The trick for making straight hair work for a more formal occasion is making sure that it is really polished and shiny. I usually use a nourishing oil, like Wella Professionals Oil Reflections, to create this smooth, finished look. Pushing your hair back off your shoulders is also an easy way to elevate this look and create a feeling of sophistication is conveys.

GRACE KELLY INSPIRED STYLES
Inspired by the classic beauty of Grace Kelly, several celebrities this awards season such as Amy Adams and Taylor Swift have worn retro inspired styles reminiscent of the legend’s famous ‘do. The modern interpretation of this look evokes a sense of old Hollywood glam that enhances the beauty of any actress on the red carpet to the next level. I can almost guarantee this is a look we will be seeing at the Academy Awards.

SHORT HAIR
Short hair has been making a splash with the Hollywood elite for months, and the arrival of award season brought even more short hair debuts. From Jennifer Lawrence to Hayden Panettiere, newly chopped bobs and pixies have been spotted on almost every red carpet.

RELAXED WAVES
This season tight and carefully manicured curls are out and loose relaxed waves have taken over. Olivia Wilde and Sofia Vergara both donned the look on the red carpet. To get this style at home, use a 1½ to 2 inch barrel curling iron to set the hair, then gently brush through with your fingers to relax curls into flowing waves. Be sure to finish your look with a light mist of Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to ensure your locks will stay in place all night.
