How do you know when you’ve got the perfect shot?
AS:
It's just a feeling usually. You see a few of the shots on screen and know you got it. Working with Ben [Watts] was pretty reassuring because he ended every shot with, "Got it!"

Speaking of which, what was it like working with the famous Ben Watts?
BR: Ben was a very entertaining and incredibly talented photographer to work with. His presence on set is above and beyond!
AS: He's a photographer we all admire and I was so excited to see his photographic style bring our brand to life. We love to celebrate special moments, and Ben is the best at capturing THE moment. We had a ton of fun.

You just finished shooting RTR's 2013 Guide to dressing for the Holidays. What overall vibe were you going for in this shoot? Blaire R, Visual Merchandiser: We wanted to cover every type of party that our renters are going to during the holiday season and promote our newest designers. Ashley S, Creative Director:: This season is full of parties, sparkle and cocktails, and that's exactly what we want to remind women of. 'Tis the season to rent!   What was your inspiration for the shoot? AS: We pulled a lot of inspiration from Sex and the City for this shoot... party dresses, great friends, champagne and lots of laughs. BR: Once we decide on a direction, the creative and fashion teams dig through magazines, online books of photographers, models and hair/makeup artists to find inspiration.   How did you decide on NYC restaurant, Bobo as the location for the shoot? BR: We were looking for a location that had that "holiday party" atmosphere; somewhere where the RTR girl is going with friends to sip on champagne, look fabulous (in her RTR dress of course), and dance the night away. Bobo ended up being a great spot for us to shoot. The decor had this amazing vintage vibe with crystal dripping chandeliers, old books, and walls covered in rustic frames. AS: It felt like a place we'd all love to spend a night out with friends and the perfect spot to host a holiday party.

How do you prepare for a photo shoot? AS: It's all about coming up with your story. Once that story is created, we pull a lot of inspiration so the team can visualize the creative direction, then work with the Fashion team to pull the perfect looks. BR: Prepping for a shoot can take months. Fortunately, I have a great team that makes sure we have wardrobe laid out, a set shot list, and models who know what they are doing!   What are some major trends you want to capture for fall? BR: Lace, sequins, and styles that are best bets as far as fit.   How do you decide what styles to photograph? BR: We work very closely with our buying team to make sure the styles we choose are appropriate for the holiday season. We also of course try to choose styles we predict will be top renters AS: The styles we chose were very representative of our RTR customer and all the things she loves. Rent the Runway is all about having fun and playing dress up, so we hope women will experiment with fashion during the holidays.

What was your absolute favorite piece you photographed during the shoot? AS: That's a tough one. I really loved the Milly with feathered skirt [COMING SOON], and pairing it with a top hat was the perfect festive and unexpected touch. BR: My favorite styles that we shot were by Cedric Charlier [COMING SOON]. Very modern and sexy for RTR.   What can’t you live without on a shoot day? BR: 2-3 rounds of coffee, Ashley (Creative Director), Lucy (Consulting Fashion Director), Melissa (Art Director), and Sam (Merchandising Assistant), and music! AS: What Blaire said, and comfy shoes!
