Celebrating 4 Decades of Gwyneth Paltrow

2012 Oscars: Tom Ford FW 2012 Gown

Why this look is epic: Tom Ford does not show at Fashion Week. He holds a very small, very exclusive presentation each season. We commoners do not even get to see photos of these collections until they stroll down the red carpet. Gwyneth rocked this white, column gown, complete with a structured-shoulder cape, only a few weeks after Ford presented it, a full season early. She took to the red carpet looking like the Hollywood royalty she irrefutably is.

There is no denying that Gwyneth Paltrow is a style genius. While she is not afraid to take major risks, she has embraced her porcelain coloring and statuesque frame, allowing the world’s top designers to use her as the perfect canvas. So in honor of her 40th birthday, I present you with a recap of her six most incredible fashion moments (in order of epicness and date). - Neil 1999 Academy Awards: Ralph Lauren Why this look is epic: If you picture an executive board of American fashion, Ralph Lauren is probably at the head of the table. Gwyneth accepted the 1999 Best Actress Oscar for her work in “Shakespeare in Love” in this classically chic pink gown. In this simple, spaghetti strapped, taffeta ball gown, she let her talent do the talking. Complete with one of the most emotional acceptance speeches ever, this was a major Hollywood moment for the actress.

2005 Academy Awards: Stella McCartney Why this look is epic: This was the beginning of the “look how easy it is to be chic” Gwyneth, as well as a pivotal point in her close friendship with the designer. The beauty in this look couldn’t be more effortless; her make-up is natural and she may not have even blow-dried her hair. She kept her accessories as light as her make-up. The color of this Stella gown perfectly compliments the coloring Gwynee-poo was born with, while hugging her in just enough places for us to say to ourselves, “she’s got her pilates instructor on speed dial.”

Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars 2006: Vintage YSL Why this look is epic: Gwyneth kept her look high-society in this understated yet incredibly chic vintage YSL gown. A simple red lip and a chignon was the perfect compliment to such a simple dress. A gold cuff and dangling gold earrings added just the right amount of sparkle to this matte black look. She literally looks like one million dollars. I have never seen a million dollar bill, but I have the feeling it looks a lot like a vintage YSL gown.

2007 Academy Awards: Zac Posen Why this look is epic: Zac Posen has the incredible ability to make even the waifiest women look like Jessica Rabbit. Gwyneth looks sexy, sophisticated, and modern in this mauve masterpiece. Staying true to her style, she stuck to an earth tone, kept the hair easy, and the make-up simple. I also can’t help but mention how amazing her jewelry looks with this gown; the silver based jewelry was an amazing choice against the color of the fabric!

Country Strong Premier in Nashville 2011: Emilio Pucci Why this look is epic: Gwyneth wore this extremely fashion-forward dress to the premier of Country Strong in Nashville, Tennessee. My favorite designer, Peter Dundas, head designer at Emilio Pucci, knocked it out of the park with this cocktail dress. This dress would be stunning in Manhattan. Beyond the fact that it fits Gwyneth like a dream, the fact that she wore this to a premier of a movie about country music in Tennessee makes it that much epic-er.
