So you've been invited to an event and the invitation says "Black Tie" – what does it all mean?
We’ve asked our stylists to interpret all that "Black Tie" entails – plus, they've even put together some of their favorite looks. What will you be wearing for your formal event this season?
Tip 1: Black Tie does not necessarily mean floor length. In fact, we've been at black tie events where the majority of women were in short dresses (granted, we live in NYC and we see Gaga-esque outfits on the regular), but there's plenty of appropriate dressy options that aren't gowns. When in doubt, ask the host what she's wearing. If there's no clues to be found, you're safe in a long dress, but these days almost anything goes!
Tip 2: Accessorize to kill. In our humble opinion, accessories make the woman. You could wear the LBD in your closet with the right clutch, earrings, and necklace. Earrings are a particularly powerful place to make a statement.
Tip 3: Navy is the new black. We embrace color at all times, but even for those who normally shy away from it, navy is a sophisticated option for formal events. We particularly love mixing navy dresses with black accessories for an uber chic look.
